Before choosing the proper disposable bowls with lids for soup, you need to understand the material options that are used to make the containers. Each of them has unique features, and you should make the choice based on the needs of your business and customers.

Paper-Based Containers

The paper soup containers are popular due to their eco-friendly properties. They are generally made from recyclable materials with thin lining inside together to prevent leaks. These types of containers have some insulation properties, so they can help maintain the temperature of the soup to some extent. This is a good choice for some businesses that want sustainable solutions for business development.

Plastic Containers

The plastic soup containers are popular for their durability and sturdiness. They are clear and offer visibility, making them the ideal choice for both hot and cold soups. But not all plastics are recyclable and safe. If served with hot soups or needing to heat the disposable soup container, you have to consider the environmental impact of the plastic, safety when used for hot soups, and acceptance of environmentally friendly consumers.

Biodegradable Containers

For some businesses that focus on sustainability, the biodegradable soup containers are the best choice. These containers are made from compostable materials, such as plant fibers or cornstarch, they can break down naturally and will not cause pollution to the environment. They offer the functionality of traditional containers does while being more eco friendly, that’s why they are more and more popular in the market today.

Foam Containers

Foam containers were once very popular due to their cheap price and insulation properties. But due to the environmental hazards caused by the material, their popularity is decreasing year by year. Many cities have also begun to implement bans on foam products since they are not recyclable or biodegradable.

After knowing the types of disposable soup containers sold on the market, you’d better understand their specific features to ensure they can perform well when serving your consumers.

Material Quality

The material of disposable soup bowls with lids will affect their performance. Each material has its own pros and cons.

Paper-Based Containers: They are eco-friendly and recyclable, which is a good option for a sustainable business. But these containers need special coating to prevent leaks, such coating may impact on recyclability.

Plastic Containers: Clear and easy to know what is inside the container, but not all plastic is recyclable, and when you use the disposable plastic soup bowls for serving the hot food, food safety may be an issue.

Biodegradable Containers: They offer the best environmental benefits, but the price of this material may be a little bit higher than other materials.

Foam Containers: They provide excellent insulation, but they are not eco-friendly, so their usage has been declining.

Heat Retention

Foam Containers: This material has the best insulation properties in keeping the soup warm.

Paper-Based Containers: This material has good heat retention if coated with an insulated layer but may not be as effective as foam.

Plastic and Biodegradable Containers: They generally retain heat well but not as well as foam.

Leak-Proof and Spill-Proof Lids

Paper, Biodegradable, and Plastic Containers: They often come with snap-on or screw-on lids, which offer a tight seal.

Foam Containers: The lids on the foam containers are not tightly secured sometimes, and if not properly handled, the soup may spill out.

Size and Portion Control

8 oz Soup Containers: They are suitable for serving small or side portions.

16 oz Soup Containers: They are suitable for medium-sized servings.

32 oz Soup Containers: They are suitable for large servings or family-sized portions.

Stackability and Space-Saving Design

Paper-based, Biodegradable, and Plastic Containers: Their design generally offers good stackability.

Foam Containers: Their stackability is not as efficient as the above three materials.

Price is also another important factor when choosing the to go soup containers, so you should balance between the cost and quality. The cheap price take out soup containers may be very attractive, but high-quality disposable soup bowls will provide your business long-term value. Let’s take a look.

Balancing Cost with Quality

The cheap soup container looks to save money for you at the beginning of the business, but they may have some disadvantages, such as poor heat retention, flimsy material, or lids that don’t secure properly. These are the bad factors that will affect your business:

Spills and Leaks: Poor-quality soup containers will cause the soup to spill everywhere. No customer will like such restaurant service.

Waste: The spillage of food leads to food waste, and you may need to make a new portion for the consumer, which increases costs.

Customer Satisfaction: Customers are willing to pay for food safety and health, and low-quality disposable bowls for soup will not satisfy customers.

Bulk Purchase Options

Disposable soup containers manufacturer is more willing to provide wholesale prices to sell them in large quantities. If you are handling a business that frequently serves soup, this is a good option.

Long-Term Savings

Although the premium disposable soup container looks more expensive at the beginning, they can save money in the long run.

Spillage and Spoilage: High-quality, leak-proof containers prevent loss of product, ensuring the soup is in good condition upon arrival.

Reputation Damage: Using reliable, secure containers can maintain your consumer’s trust and satisfaction, which will provide repeat business.

Environmental Impact: The price of compostable or biodegradable soup containers may be higher than other materials, but you will save a lot on garbage disposal and improve brand loyalty.

Compostable packaging is a new environmentally friendly packaging solution that has been developed in recent years to reduce or even replace the use of plastic packaging. These packaging usually come from renewable resources, generally some plant-based materials, such as corn starch, sugarcane bagasse, etc. The cultivation and production of these materials do not require harsh conditions, so the supply of these packaging materials is very stable. Use compostable packaging materials to make compostable bowls or other food containers, decompose them in composting facilities, and the nutrient-rich compost left can be used again.

Disposable salad bows are always the convenient choice for use in the home or as salad bowls to go . While it is convenient, the problem of environmental pollution cannot be ignored. The emergence of compostable salad bowls will not end up in landfills like plastic bowls and pollute the environment.

Reduced Environmental Impact: Using plant-based materials as raw materials, such as cornstarch, sugarcane fiber, or bamboo, reduces the use of petroleum-based materials. This will reduce the carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions.

Biodegradability: Compostable bowls can break down into organic matter when disposed of in composting facilities. But the plastic bowls will stay in the landfills and oceans for a long time.

Contributing to the Circular Economy: Composting waste, including compostable bowls and foods, will produce nutrient-rich compost, which could support agricultural activities. This closes the loop in the production cycle and promotes a circular economy.

Durable: High-quality compostable bowls are durable, no matter in terms of load-bearing or waterproofing, it is not inferior to plastic bowls.

Comply with Local Regulations: Many countries and locations have banned using plastic or foam food packaging material. Using compostable bowls can help your business comply with these regulations.

PP (Polypropylene) salad containers are known for their durability and resistance to heat, making them suitable for a variety of food storage applications. PP containers are not as transparent as PET, but they have excellent heat and chemical resistance, which means that PP salad bowls can be used in microwaves if they need to be heated. PP is also a recyclable material, but the recycling rate is lower than PET.

Durability and Strength: PP (Polypropylene) salad bowls are highly durable and resistant to impacts. In daily use, there is no risk of breakage even if it is dropped or treated roughly, making it a reliable choice.

Heat Resistance: One of the key advantages of PP salad bowls is their high resistance to heat. This feature makes the PP bowl very versatile, including serving hot food or heating up leftovers, which is especially beneficial for busy households and food service providers.

Chemical Resistance: PP salad bowls offer excellent resistance to chemicals, including acids, bases, and organic solvents. This makes them suitable for holding various types of salads with acidic dressings or ingredients. The chemical resistance of PP ensures that the material does not degrade or leach harmful substances into the food, maintaining both safety and integrity.

Cost-Effectiveness: PP is generally more affordable than some other plastics, making PP salad bowls a cost-effective choice for both manufacturers and consumers.

Recyclability: Although the recycling rate for PP is lower than that for PET, PP is still recyclable. Try to recycle used PP salad bowls to reduce the impact of plastic on the environment.

Heat Sensitivity: The heat resistance of PLA containers is not as good as plastic.

Bagasse Containers:

Made from sugarcane fibers, bagasse is a sturdy material often used for containers and plates. It’s compostable and biodegradable. Bagasse containers are also one of the most widely used eco friendly to go containers in shops, restaurants, hospitals, schools, etc.

Pros of Bagasse Containers:

Biodegradable: Bagasse containers are made from sugarcane fiber, which is eco friendly and compostable.

Renewable Resource: Sugarcane is a byproduct of sugar production, utilizing agricultural waste and reducing environmental impact.

Sturdy and Durable: Bagasse containers are relatively sturdy and can hold both hot and cold food items without losing their shape or integrity.

Microwave and Freezer Safe: They can used both in microwave ovens and freezers, very convenient for you to reheat and store.

Cons of Bagasse Containers:

Moisture Sensitivity: bagasse food containers can become soggy when in contact with liquid for a long period, this will affect its durability.

Limited Heat Resistance: Suitable for many hot foods, but can not stay in hot temperatures for a long time, this will cause container deformation.

Cost: The production and raw material cost of bagasse containers will be higher than normal plastic.

Palm Leaf Containers:

Containers made from dried and pressed palm leaves are compostable and offer a natural, rustic look. This material is also widely used to make palm leaves plates and serving for catering. However due to the production and processing of palm leaf containers is not widespread, the sourcing of palm leaf products is limited, and this product is not common in the market.

Pros of Palm Leaf Containers:

Biodegradable and Compostable: This natural material is biodegradable, breaking down organically.

Renewable Resource: The materials are normally coming from the fallen palm leaves, as the waste of palm trees, which is an eco friendly choice.

Sturdy and Durable: Palm leaf containers are sturdy, heat resistant, and can hold hot or cold foods without getting soggy.

Cons of Palm Leaf Containers:

Limited Availability: Materials are limited and not easy to get everywhere.

What Are the Common Problems in the Production Process of Molded Pulp Packaging?

Excessive Pulping Time

The materials commonly used for making pulp boards are chemical pulps. If the materials can’t be broken down, it depends on the density of the pulp board itself and the blades and speed of the pulping machine. Generally, high-consistency pulpers have spiral blades and flat blades, while low-consistency ones usually use flat blades, with side knives added around the tank. If the pulping speed is too slow, one should consider the sharpness of the blades and the motor’s speed. A 6-pole motor has greater torque but slower speed, whereas a 4-pole motor has faster speed but lower torque. Therefore, adjustments in motor speed can be made according to different pulping machines.

The Dual-Protection Product is Prone to Foaming

Mainly because of the addition of anti-oil agents and the significant impact force during beating, it’s easy to cause foaming. Moreover, the cleanliness of the pulp and water directly affects the likelihood of foaming. If there are more impurities in the pulp, the probability of foaming increases. Additionally, high temperatures, especially in summer, easily breed microorganisms, leading to foaming and resulting in foam spots on the product surface! To reduce foam: (1) Ensure the cleanliness of the pulp, (2) Purify the water quality, (3) Use defoaming agents such as ether for defoaming.

The Usage of Waterproof and Oil-Resistant Additives is Relatively High

The main reason is the high impurity content in the pulp and poor water quality. Generally, for white sugarcane pulp, the dosage of waterproofing agents (acrylates) is around 2-2.5%, and for oil-resistant agents, it’s approximately 0.8%. For unbleached sugarcane pulp, the dosage of waterproofing agents is around 3%, and for oil-resistant agents, it’s around 0.9%. However, these proportions may vary when mixing different types of pulps. The pH value of water should ideally be around 7; if it tends to be alkaline, it can cause an excessive usage of additives. Additionally, an excess of microorganisms in the water can consume a significant amount of additives. Therefore, if there is a significant increase in additive usage, consider changing the water source or checking if the pulp meets food-grade standards.

The Moisture Content in the Formed Wet Preform is Excessively High

Typically, the moisture content in the preform is around 70%. Higher moisture content can cause prolonged setting times, excessive energy consumption, and in some cases, edge explosion issues. Hence, when the moisture content is high, it’s essential to consider whether the preform’s thickness is excessive, the vacuum level is low, the suction time is short, the forming mold is properly sealed, whether cushion sealing is applied, and in unforeseen circumstances, inspect for potential vacuum leaks in pipelines or valves.

Uneven Molding Thickness

Evenness of Suction Holes in the Mold: Non-uniform suction holes might cause this issue. Depending on the situation, opening or blocking holes might be necessary.

Clogging of the Metal Mesh: Any blockage in the metal mesh should be promptly cleaned.

Injection Molding Issues: In the case of injection molding, inspect whether the injection tube is directly impacting the product. Adjust the injection point to prevent direct impact.

Vacuum Leakage: Check for vacuum leaks in the affected area. If present, immediate repair and sealing are required.

Valve Malfunction: Check for any jammed release valves. All four release valves need to function simultaneously for a more uniform result. If needed, promptly conduct repairs.”

The Edges of the Molded Product’s Wet Embryo Are Too Small

If the edges are too small, it will cause edge defects after setting. The main reason for this issue is often the undersized cushioning pads in the basket frame, which can be expanded using a wallpaper knife.

Net Marks Appear on The Product After Setting

Consider several possible reasons: (1) Small gaps between molds or excessive product weight. (2) Excessive thickness of the metal mesh. (3) Insufficient evenness in the molds or equipment, which might result in depressions, causing mesh marks on the edges of the final product. (4) The presence of foam in the pulp pool can also lead to mesh marks. (5) High pressure in the pressurizing cylinder; reducing the pressure to around 3-4kg is generally recommended.

The Product Appears Insufficiently Compacted After Forming

Consider several potential reasons: (1) Insufficient product weight or excessive gaps between molds. (2) Inadequate pressure or insufficient descent of the cylinder. (3) Prolonged use of molds resulting in substantial scale buildup, preventing proper molding in some areas. (4) Malfunctioning or misalignment of electromagnetic valves. (5) Severe wear of the sealing ring in the cylinder’s pressurizing section, leading to inadequate pressurization distance.

Forming Time is Too Long

Consider several possible reasons: (1) Excessive moisture content in the wet preform. (2) Uneven heating due to unevenness in molds or equipment. (3) Low temperature of the heat transfer oil. (4) Blockage in the heating plate, reducing thermal conductivity. (5) Insufficient pressure in the cylinder. (6) Excessive product thickness; typically, for products with a thickness of around 1mm, the setting time ranges from 60 to 90 seconds.

The Trimming Blade CanNot Cut Through

Consider several potential reasons: (1) Dull cutting blade edges. (2) Uneven equipment or molds causing some areas to be difficult to cut through. (3) Insufficient descent or pressurization distance of the cylinder. (4) Low pressure in the cylinder.

The Edges Have Severe Burrs

Consider several potential reasons: (1) Dull cutting blades. (2) Excessive clearance between the die sets, typically between 0 to 2 threads. (3) Overly thick products with high surface dryness, prone to ‘blowout.’ (4) Uneven equipment causes variations in applied force, resulting in burrs.

Waterproof and Oil-Resistant Additives are Ineffective

Consider several potential reasons: (1) Possible omissions or reduced amounts of additives during the addition process. (2) Contaminated water quality with excessive microbial presence. (3) Possible conflicts between defoaming agents and other additives. (4) If the moisture content of the product after setting exceeds 10%, it can easily lead to ineffectiveness of waterproof and oil-resistant properties.

When we choose the packing for our items, no matter whether for food or other items, most of us need it good for health, biodegradable, and compostable. Based on this, sugarcane bagasse packaging has become the one that stands out among all packaging materials, because this material is not only eco friendly, but also strong and durable. What makes this material stronger?

Natural Fiber Structure: Bagasse is from sugarcane fibers, and has a natural structure that contributes to its strength. These fibers are long, providing resilience and durability to the material.

High Fibrous Content: Bagasse contains a high percentage of cellulose fibers. After proceeding and molded, they can create a dense network that could enhance the strength.

Binding Properties: During the pulping process, natural lignin present in bagasse acts as a binding agent, helping fibers adhere together and form a sturdy structure.

Heat treatment: The heat treatment process used in bagasse preparation helps sterilize the material, increase its resistance to microbial degradation, and increase its strength.

Molding Technology: Carefully controlled molding and shaping processes help create uniform and structurally sound containers, avoiding weak spots or distortion.

Density and Compression: Density achieved through proper processing and compression techniques increases the strength of the material, making it suitable for containing various types of food products.

Natural Resilience: Bagasse is inherently flexible and elastic, allowing it to withstand moderate pressure without easily cracking or deforming.

Compostable bowls are designed to break down into organic matter when subjected to specific composting conditions. Unlike traditional disposable bowls, they provide an eco-friendly option for foodservice establishments and individuals looking to reduce plastic waste.

Compostable bowls are crafted from renewable materials like sugarcane bagasse, wheat straw, bamboo, or palm leaf. These materials are not only sustainable but also exhibit properties that make them suitable for food packaging.

Selecting the right compostable material for your bowls depends on various factors. Sugarcane bagasse is a popular choice due to its durability, heat resistance, and availability. Wheat straw offers similar benefits and is a byproduct of the wheat harvesting process, making it a sustainable option. Bamboo bowls are known for their strength and elegance, while palm leaf bowls offer a unique, natural aesthetic.

Consider the specific needs of your foodservice establishment when choosing the ideal compostable material. Evaluate factors like durability, heat resistance, cost, and availability to make an informed decision.

To ensure the effectiveness of compostable bowls, proper handling and disposal are crucial. Store the bowls in a cool, dry place to maintain their integrity and prevent moisture absorption. Educate staff and customers about the importance of separating compostable items from other waste streams, emphasizing the distinction between compostable and recyclable items.

Identify local composting facilities or services that can accept the compostable bowls. By following proper disposal practices, you can contribute to the creation of nutrient-rich soil and the reduction of waste sent to landfills.

1. Choose the right compostable bowls:

Ensure that the bowls you use are certified as compostable and made from suitable materials such as sugarcane bagasse, wheat straw, bamboo, or palm leaf. Look for compostable certifications like BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) or ASTM D6400 to ensure they meet industry standards.

2. Collect compostable bowls:

Gather used compostable bowls separately from other waste. Discard any food remnants or non-compostable items before composting.

3. Set up a composting system:

Backyard Composting: If you have a backyard, create a compost pile or use a compost bin. Choose a dry and shady location that allows for proper airflow.

Indoor Composting: If you don’t have outdoor space, consider indoor composting methods such as vermicomposting (using worms) or bokashi composting (using fermentation). Follow the specific guidelines for these methods.

4. Prepare your compost pile or bin:

Layering: Start with a layer of dry organic materials like leaves, straw, or shredded paper to create a base.

Add compostable bowls: Place the compostable bowls on top of the base layer, ensuring they are spread out evenly.

Cover with organic matter: Add additional layers of organic materials like kitchen scraps, yard waste, or wood chips. Alternate between dry and wet materials to maintain moisture balance.

5. Maintain composting conditions:

Moisture: Keep the compost pile moist, like a damp sponge, by watering it occasionally. Avoid excessive dryness or waterlogging.

Aeration: Turn or mix the compost pile regularly to provide oxygen for decomposition. This helps prevent odor and promotes breakdown.

Temperature: Compost piles generate heat naturally during decomposition. Aim for a temperature range of 120-160°F (49-71°C) for faster breakdown.

6. Composting timeline:

Compostable bowls generally take several months to fully decompose. The exact timeline depends on factors such as the composting method, ingredients used, and environmental conditions. Typically, compostable bowls will break down within 3 to 6 months under ideal conditions.

7. Tips for home composting:

Chop or break down larger compostable bowls into smaller pieces to speed up decomposition.

Maintain a proper balance of carbon-rich (browns) and nitrogen-rich (greens) materials for optimal composting.

Monitor the moisture levels regularly and adjust as needed to keep the compost pile moist but not waterlogged.

Avoid composting oils, meats, dairy products, or other non-compostable items, as they can attract pests or slow down the composting process.

8. Commercial composting facilities:

If home composting is not feasible, check for local commercial composting facilities. These facilities accept compostable materials, including compostable bowls, and provide an efficient and controlled environment for composting on a larger scale.
